Return of the Enkoder……

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 by Andy

It’s back! Boy am I happy webby devvy!

This is the tippest toppest app for obfuscating your email addresses available for the Mac. After a lengthy absence Dan Benjamin has decided to update this little beauty. I was using the Obfuscatr widget for a while, especially when the Enkoder online form went AWOL but Obfucatr won’t allow custom code or additions like subject lines to your mailto’s.

Also available as an online form check it out here

Email harvester bots are shaking in their boots…….

Just thought I’d add that if you are adding email addresses directly through a CMS admin panel you might still have better luck with Obfuscatr. The Javascript generated by Enkoder is a little too much to handle, especially for WordPress. I should also add that it’s necessary to paste in the generated script in code view not WYSIWYG view…….

This seems to be a real concern even though the distributor is claiming none of these coins made it to the US market. I know I find any in my kids Halloween bags, they’re out!

A warning to parents and kids regarding SHERWOOD BRAND PIRATE’S GOLD MILK CHOCOLATE COINS imported from China.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public not to eat, distribute or sell the candy.

It is sold across Canada by COSTCO and may also have been sold in bulk packages or as individual pieces at VARIOUS DOLLAR AND BULK STORES.   The chocolate contains MELAMINE which is the same chemical responsible for the death of several young children in China, and the sickening thousands more.

Lays Natural Thick Cut Sea Salted Chips, back in stock at Hannaford

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008 by Cybele

I’m a big potato chip fan.  I’ve always been.  But I am picky.  I hate the greasy ones, the vineager ones and the over-salted ones.  Not a big fan of the flavored ones either.  Some years ago, Lays came out with a Natural chip, made with: potatoes, salt and corn oil.  They are quite yummy, not greasy and I have to keep them away from my kids otherwise, there are none left for me.

Well, sometime over the summer, maybe July…I noticed that they were out of stock at my local Scarborough Hannaford. They are always in the same section of Nature’s Place.  I thought it was a fluke and kept checking…weeks go by and there is still the empty place on the shelf.  One day in August, I happen to chat up the fellow restocking some shelves nearby (noticed his name tag said Steve) and ask about the chips.  He promises to look into it and jots down the item number.

Another month later and I see Steve again, and we chat about those chips, and perhaps they were discontinued…bummer because they are the best chips ever!  But he’ll follow up with the Frito Lay guy who is due in the next day, he assures me.

Low and behold, last week, as I make my rounds through Nature’s Place, I see my friend Steve again…and just as I’m about to ask him if he ever found out what became of my favorite chips, he pulls down a bag and hands it to me!  Oh JOY!  I thank him profusely for his help.

I wonder if they would have turned up again if I had not asked the question.  Oh well.  Now, if only I can get them to restock my favorite pickles…Vlasik Snack Umms!  Out of stock since summer as well.

Can’t have a good sandwich without my pickles and chips!

Who Moved my Mousse Cake?

Friday, October 10th, 2008 by Andy

Yes, mousse cake, chocolate mousse cake, the more you say it, the better it feels.

Actually this post is about the the apparent dissappearance of Foley’s Bakery and my need for a mousse cake. I anyone knows whether or not Foleys is still around somewhere then please let me know because their Chocolate Mousse cake was the pinacle of errrrr mousse cake. I used to frequent their bakery when they were still on Congress Street in Portland near the First Parish Church. At Easter they would make little cakes shaped like chicks (the feathered kind) and I’d buy one for Ollie who was about two at the time. Their mousse cake was the perfect birthday cake. Anyway I’m happy to say that the ‘patisserie’ (I’m calling it that because it looks like one)  at Whole Foods is doing pretty well at filling the gap. If Foley’s CMC was a perfect 10 then I’d say Whole Foods are hovering at about 8. They do some fresh fruit tarts that are mighty fine too. I look forward to slowly working my way through some of their offerings. Pictured, a CMC, probably larger than the one at Whole Foods although they do come in 2 sizes…….

The stupid Vote

Thursday, October 9th, 2008 by Andy

You may have noticed that I like to filter my (in)Decision 2008 (”Cluster%^$#^%$ to the Poorhouse”) coverage through the Daily Show on Comedy Central (usually followed up by a reality check via the Colbert Report ).

This piece on the stupid vote is great.

By the way, as a ‘Resident Alien’ I can’t so I’m exempt.

Say Goodbye to The Riches

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 by dave

No, I don’t mean those in your wallet, or that were in your wallet before the whole banking gone boom fi-freaking-asco. I mean the TV drama-comedy-black-comedy-vehicle-for-Eddie-Izzard-to-be-on-the-TV. The series, telling the ultimate story of identity theft, was full of plot holes, but as a fan you learned to accept many of them. Obviously, Fox/FX realized that not enough people were buying the hoax and decided to axe it after 1 3/4 seasons. I say 3/4 seasons because of the shortened filimg of season 2 due to the California Wildfires.

Am I upset? A little. I used to go over to my best friend’s house on Mondays and Tuesdays to watch it, and it had some great moments. The tone was kept tense throughout- Who’s sneaking around their door? Does someone know their true identity? Will Wayne Malloy put on a dress (no, but his son did regularly). I wonder if Eddie Izzard will return to his roots and don a pair of black leather pants and lipstick again, now that he doesn’t have to be the suit and tie Riches lead any longer.

And what about Minnie Driver? She was phenominal in her role as Wayne’s wife Daliah. Good enough to earn Emmy nominations for her role. Easy on the eyes, too, but that’s a whole other story. Now it sounds like she’s got more time to spend with the newborn instead of working on Season 3.

The good news is, Fox and FX can now start their latest two TV shows, “What Animal Attacks Next?, “American Steroid Monsters” and “Oww, You Just Kicked My Balls”. Those are the shows that America really wants to see, I guess. Looks like Bill Hicks was right.
